Our table linen and household linen collections are designed, woven and made entirely in our workshop in Orthez.
We’re proud to have preserved the family factory in France. Generation after generation, the Moutet family has adapted and innovated to maintain a fully local production.
For 150 years, ‘Made in France’ has been more than a choice—it’s a conviction. Passing down our expertise is a core value, nurtured since the company’s creation. Our team, bringing together 17 different trades, is trained in-house at our Orthez workshop through the transmission of skills.
This unique expertise requires excellence in the mastery of two weaving looms with distinct techniques:
the Basque and the Jacquard. This specificity makes Tissage Moutet unique in the world.
The name “Basque Linen,” first protected in 1953, is now officially recognized as a Geographical Indication by public authorities.
Basque Linen refers to fabric exclusively woven in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques from natural fibers—cotton and linen—with stripes or geometric patterns. Deeply rooted in our heritage and craftsmanship, we weave Basque Linen with respect for tradition while bringing a modern touch. Our original and colorful collections ensure the longevity of this ancestral know-how.
The Jacquard technique, introduced in our workshops in the 1950s, enables us to create complex, custom-made patterns. Prestigious cultural and tourist sites, remarkable homes, and Michelin-starred restaurants choose Moutet’s expertise and French-made quality.
The Basque Linen Geographical Indication, certified in 2020, is a true mark of quality for consumers, guaranteeing the purchase of a product that is entirely locally made and respects ancestral craftsmanship. The geographical anchorage of the designation within the Pyrénées-Atlantiques guarantees the preservation of a living heritage as well as skilled jobs.
Today, only two companies are certified with the Basque Linen Geographical Indication.
